We continue our annual tradition of using the Pick Hit section for our reviewers to post their Top 10 lists of favorite blues albums from the previous year. Spoiler alert --- the CD from Monster Mike Welch and Mike Ledbetter shows up on most of the lists and Samantha Fish shows up with two great CDs during 2017.

Alligator Records took one of the most soulful blues singers around, Curtis Salgado, and teamed him up with guitarist Alan Hager for something completely different --- an album, Rough Cut, of more traditional tunes. It's our Surprise CD of the month.

This month's Flashback feature is more of a personal look back at an artist, sax wizard Jimmy Carpenter, that our editor/publisher used to see in North Carolina quite often back in the 1980s.

Our What's New section features new CDs from Tinsley Ellis, Savoy Brown, Big Shoes, Chris Daniels and the Kings, Wee Willie Walker, Peter Parcek, Casey James, Albert Castiglia, Ilana Katz Katz, Peter Ward, Jeff Fetterman, Al Corte', Chickenbone Slim, and more.
