Following a long tradition, our January Pick Hit features a list of the best albums from the previous year. Among the 2024 releases showing up on both of our lists include new ones from Jovin Webb, Jerron Paxton, Toronzo Cannon, John Primer & Bob Corritore, and more.

Sax player / singer / songwriter Vanessa Collier has a fine new album out, Do It My Own Way, an easy choice as Surprise pick of the month.

This month's Flashback unearths a much too obscure album from a decade ago by Mississippi Delta blues cat Anthony "Big A" Sherrod. It's still available if you're willing to dig deep to find Right On Time.

Our What's New section features new albums from Tomislav Goluban and Crooked Eye Tommy, Ed Alstrom, and The Dennis Spencer Group, plus an amazing compilation of past recordings from the late blues/soul singer Frank Bey.
