This month's Pick Hit is a bittersweet release, as the latest from Carol Fran & Clarence Hollimon was released just weeks after the latter's death, but it's a fitting tribute to his prodigious guitar talents.

Georgia guitarist Robert Ward is a great guitarist with his own unique sound, as well as a nice soulful vocalist. He was way overdue for this latest release, New Role Soul, our Surprise of the month feature.

This album from Houston-based jump blues singer Jimmy "T-99" Nelson was only released last year, but we missed out on it the first time around. It's good enough that we included it as this month's Flashback selection.

This month's What's New section features reviews of new CDs from Pinetop Perkins, Koko Taylor, Barbara Carr, Mighty Sam McClain, Peter Green, Chris Thomas King, two fine albums from Monterey singer John "Broadway" Tucker, and more.
