August 1999 The Music Maker organization, based in North Carolina, was formed to support many of the unknown traditional blues artists in the USA. Their first three CDs feature longtime North Carolina performers Etta Baker, John Dee Holeman, and Algia Mae Hinton (pictured at right). These CDs make up our Pick Hit for the month of August. Blues/rock guitarist Walter Trout has a fine new disc highlighted in our Surprise section, and our reviewer just can't figure out why the major labels haven't signed this band. We're very happy that The Lost Tapes, from a couple of 1971 Muddy Water's concerts in Washington and Oregon, have now been found. You can read all about this great CD in our Flashback section. A host of new Blues Bytes reviewers contribute to this month's What's New section, as we feature new releases from Arthur Adams, Sonny Rhodes, Dave Hole, Paul Geremia, Debbie Davies, and others.
