February 2004
Four veteran female Texas singers are showcased on one of the more surprising discs in the last year. Featuring the vocal talents of Lavelle White, Gloria Edwards, Glenda Hargis and Miss Candy, Texas Soul Sisters is our Surprise pick. Earl King's excellent album Street Parade finally makes it to CD more than 30 years after it was recorded, now with six extra cuts that were not on the previous Charly vinyl re-issue. The late King was backed by the Meters on this 1972 session; it's our latest Flashback feature. This month's What's New section features a CD by the combination of Eric Bibb, Rory Block and Maria Muldaur, titled Brother and Sisters, plus new ones from Sean 'Wood Dog' Hernandez, Di Anne Price, Rockin' Jimmy Crimmins, Dave Hannon, Mike Morgan & the Crawl, Lee Shot Williams, Bill Coday, and more. It's a great month for re-issues, with collectibles from Jimmy Rogers, Blind Lemon Jefferson, and J.B. Lenoir.
