The first trade of the offseason is a big one, with the Hens sending Justin Upton, the #3 overall pick and a 5th round pick to the Drillers for Dustin Pedroia and the 19th overall pick. This is a bold move on the part of both teams. After losing out to the eventual World Series winners, Indy Irish, in the ALCS, the Scorpions beefed up their starting pitching staff by acquiring Rich Harden and a 5th round pick from the Victory for the enigmatic but still promising Ian Snell and the Scorps' 1st round pick. The Sonoran Sidewinders waved the white flag and began the rebuilding effort in earnest by trading Adrian Beltre, Oliver Perez and JP Howell, along with late draft choices, to the new Legends for Eric Chavez, Travis Buck and the draft picks from the first three rounds. The defending champion Irish continue to rebuild by trading ace pitcher CC Sabathia and outfielder Marlon Byrd to the Phobics for Yovani Gallardo, Jeremy Heredia and their 1st round choice.
